Gliding down snowy mountain slopes at breakneck speeds is the essence of this popular winter sport. But it’s the rush of cold mountain air and pure adrenaline that has turned skiing into a major recreational and competitive activity. Originally used for transportation, skiing has evolved over the past 100 years ever since Austrian Hannes Schneider pioneered the idea of rotating the body to help steer the skis. The technique soon spread around the world and a new multi-billion dollar recreational industry was born.
